I decided I had to watch Assignment #1 again last night because it was clear I didn't remember a damn thing about it if I couldn't even recall who Lead was. Watching it again, it became clear why I didn't remember it. I didn't really like it much. Sapphire was very different in that serial from who she is in the others and I like her WAY better from Assignment #2 onward. Anyway, that's not the point of this post.

The point of this post is Joanna Lumley. I first became aware of her as Patsy on AbFab. What I didn't realize then was how much of a departure comedy was for her. How much of a re-invention. I never knew she'd started out as a model and an action hottie girl. So seeing her on S&S is so f-ing cool. And it also made me want to hunt down a million pics of her.

So, without further ado, I bring you a giant picspam of Joanna Lumley through the ages.

(Beware. VERY image heavy with large pics.)

(She has aged magnificently. What a strikingly gorgeous woman.)

(I ♥ this pic. So saucy!)

(SO YOUNG!)

(Oh, Patsy.)

(Gorgeous S&S promo shot.)

(Shockingly, I kinda love her more as a blonde. And that's very unusual for me, because I tend to go for the dark-haired ladies.)

(HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)

(Sheeeeeep!!!)

And finally, another gorgeous shot from Sapphire & Steel:

So, there you have it. Joanna Lumley being a total hotass for DECADES. I don't think it's humanly possible to be any more fabulous than that.

That hat (third from bottom) is insane!!

You're right, though, she has aged very well and she still looks gorgeous.

These are fantastic - I really had no idea! So lovely. I love the one of her looking out the window best - she's soooo pretty at that stage in her life. I love the look.

You should make sure [livejournal.com profile] lizbee sees these to use one on [livejournal.com profile] dw_daily...they should get a wider audience!

Right?! She just looks so comfortable with herself. It makes her infinitely sexy. And I'm sure Liz will see them. Maybe I should link to this on the S&S comm? I'll have to check their rules.

also: you're awesome.

Me too! The model pics and the early stuff from the Avengers is cute, but she really started to come into her own from S&S onward.

Also: thank you! You ain't so bad yourself, hotstuff.

Dude! Have you checked out The New Avengers? It is not as good as Avengers but Joanna Lumley is rather a bit awesome as Purdey, yes.

(Shockingly, I kinda love her more as a blonde. And that's very unusual for me, because I tend to go for the dark-haired ladies.)

Have to agree here, on both points. Give me brunettes any day, but Lumley has such an unusual bone structure that (a) light hair and her eye color combine to bring it out so very, very nicely, and (b) it didn't really show to her best advantage until she was older. Not, mind you, that there's a single thing wrong with her in her twenties.

Oh, sorry. Was that shallow?

Oh, sorry. Was that shallow?

Yes. But in the best possible way. ;-)

And I think you're totally right about why the lighter hair works for her.

LOVE this picspam (found the link via the S&S community). La Lumley is a legend & rightly so. Can't be long before she's made a Dame, especially with all the recent high-profile campaigning she's been doing for the Ghurkas. One of my favourite pics is this one. (http://community.livejournal.com/joannalumley/1859.html)

Have you seen "Sensitive Skin" ? Possibly my favourite Lumley performance yet. Catch it before HBO remake it with Kim Cattrall (yes really!)

WOOOOOW! That pic is GORGEOUS! Oh, man. What a beauty she is. And no, I haven't seen Sensitive Skin, but the pics from it definitely intrigued me. I'll definitely have to check it out. No offense to Kim Cattrall, but she's no Lumley. ;-)

I'm a horrible person, because since I first saw her in S&S, I always thought she looked very much like a man in drag. >_> Not that that's . . . a bad thing, and she's a very pretty man in drag, but a man in drag never the less.

I like her a lot in that brunette shot, though. I should watch the rest of S&S someday, I guess. I've just seen half of Assignment #1 and the two with Silver.

Posted by [identity profile] elyssadc.livejournal.com
No, not horrible. I can definitely see that. She's got very strong, masculine-type features. I mean, she totally played that up as Patsy, so I don't think even she would be offended by the idea. ;-)

As for S&S, I don't know. You and I seem to have opposite taste even about things we agree on, so you'll probably hate all the eps I love. :-P
