Whatever became of Steven?

Two posts in one day? UNHEARD OF!
But I'm listening to the Companion Chronicle The Suffering with Steven and Vicki and I got to thinking. Whatever happened to Steven Taylor? Was his post-TARDIS fate ever dealt with in any novels or short stories? I always liked him and his life pre-TARDIS was so damn tragic. I'm hoping maybe some writer decided to give him a happily ever after.
Wiki is being no help so I thought I'd ask here. So, flisties. Any novel fans have any insight?
Also? Good CC so far. Steven and Vicki are just adorable.

on 2010-04-15 06:25 am (UTC)Personally, even though I feel there's not enough of Dodo, I wish the powers that be had managed to release Jackie Lane from her contract two episodes earlier, so that she would stay in the planet of the Elders and Savages with Steven. Not only it would have released her from her ignominious departure in The War Machines, but it would have made it a happy ending for the two of them.

on 2010-04-15 02:28 pm (UTC)GAH! That's incredibly disappointing. You'd think SOMEONE would have touched on it in one of the million or so tie-in novels. ::sigh::

You are SOOOOOO right. Also, I do know her fate was dealt with in the novels and it was absurdly tragic. She didn't deserve that kind of ending and staying with Steven would have been so terribly sweet. Awww, man! Now you put this idea in my head and I'm all bitter.

on 2010-04-16 08:52 am (UTC)I did love The Suffering, it was great. Although hard not to laugh while I was listening at work and Steven was dressing up a skeleton on the bus.
I know Peter Purves has said on a couple of audios that he likes the idea of Steven becoming a despot. I like the idea that he introduces democracy to them and then gets voted out as leader.

Ohhhhh, now THAT is brilliant! So convinced he knows what's best for them that he undermines everything he was trying to do. I wish someone had written that book.
