Not only it would have released her from her ignominious departure in The War Machines, but it would have made it a happy ending for the two of them.
You are SOOOOOO right. Also, I do know her fate was dealt with in the novels and it was absurdly tragic. She didn't deserve that kind of ending and staying with Steven would have been so terribly sweet. Awww, man! Now you put this idea in my head and I'm all bitter.
