A Doctor Who Valentine...
Feb. 12th, 2008 08:49 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Well, today was a complete and utter exercise in futility and frustration, so I thought I would come home and do something I would really enjoy. As Valentine's Day is one of my most favorite holidays (everything is pink and red and sparkly and heart covered and yummy!), I decided I would create a gratuitously massive post of all the characters in Who that make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. \o/
So, in honor of this very shiny holiday, I bring you:
And, of course, no post about LOVE in DW could start anywhere but with Two/Jamie. They are so completely and utterly in love with each other it borders on the absurd. I am convinced, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they spent the entirety of Jamie's life traveling together and that Two only regenerated after Jamie passed away of old age. CANON BE DAMNED. Look how ridiculously adorable they are!

Sure, every once in a while Two may have had a tender moment with Victoria:

And Jamie might have gotten a little friendly with a Yeti:

Or they may have even gotten Zoe involved:

But in the end, it was all came back to them. ::happy sigh::

I'm going to post a link to one short story for each of my Valentine's Day pairings that I think best illustrates their love for each other. Shockingly enough, these are all pretty gen (I know! It's crazy!), but this post is all about the love, not the hot-monkey-sex-in-the-TARDIS, so there ya go. For Two/Jamie, I'm gonna rec:
Heights
Now, on to Pertwee...
Considering what an obnoxious, arrogant, condescending bastard Three could be, I really do adore him and I think he had some serious love going on. It kills me that Liz Shaw and the Brigadier never got to travel with him in the TARDIS because they were a threesome made of WIN.
The Doctor clearly loved Liz:

(That pic kills me with the stealth sexiness)
And the Brig clearly loved Liz:

And the love between the three of them is blatantly obvious:

That is why for this threesome's story rec, I am going for a brilliant little piece that explores the "what if" of them travelling together in the TARDIS.
All These Things We've Done
But that's not all for Three. The dude definitely got around. And as much as everyone is all freaking out with the Ten/Simm!Master slash-a-rama, those two have NOTHING on the original Doctor/Master pairing of smoldering, issue-ladden, love-hate. I'm all about Three/Delgado!Master because honestly? Delgado!Master pwns the universe. ;-)

And this story is, quite possibly, one of my top 10 favorite stories in any fandom EVER. My love for this piece can not be textually rendered. You must read it and then you will understand why Three/Delgado!Master is the real best-enemy OTP.
Sweet Are the Uses
Moving along to the Sixth Doctor, I run into a problem. The problem is that my pairing of love and undying affection for this incarnation is Six/Evelyn and there really are no pics that exist of them, being an audio pairing and all. The best I could do was this shot of Colin Baker and Maggie Stables which I do actually think is pretty cute:

And I just adore this story:
The Chinese Remainder Theorem
Following Six, we get to Seven/Ace who love each other almost as blatantly as Jamie and Two. The scene in The Curse of Fenric where she licks his tie to wipe the dirt off of his nose? The squeeing sounds I make when I watch it are too embarassing to admit.

One of my favorite Seven/Ace stories is:
...Who Burned Like Starfire
I think it is beautifully written and so perfectly them. ::happy sigh::
Another BF audio pairing that is made of love and goodness is Eight/Charley. While I definitely don't ship them, I think their love and affection for each other is completely obvious.

And when you add a smiling Nicholas Courtney, EVEN BETTER!

As for a story rec, I haven't really read much Eight/Charley, but this one is quite sweet and I think it captures their relationship well.
Fetes and Fireworks
Now, just when you thought I was gonna keep this totally old skool, here I go shaking things up a bit. How could I possibly create a Valentine post about Who love without including my very first Doctor? Regardless of any ship wars, I think it's impossible to deny that Nine and Rose (and Jack) loved each other. Romantic or not, doesn't matter a bit to me.

I wish I had a better picture of Nine/Rose/Jack, but you get the idea:

And for a Ninth Doctor story rec, I am gonna go with an oldie but goodie. It was actually one of the very first stories I ever read in this fandom, and it's still one of my favorites.
A Phantom of Clouds
BUT WE ARE NOT DONE, NO WAY, NO HOW!!!
Sure, the Doctors all love their companions. But true love lasts millenia! And there is no truer love in the history of the universe than the love between the Doctor and his TARDIS.

(I think we all know what THEY were getting up to in there. Naughty, naughty boys...)

(I luuuuuuv his mischievous look in this shot)

Now. Last, but certainly not least, I bring you the love between the Doctor and his most deadly enemies. ;-)

(I can not BELIEVE this picture exists! It's so cute I can't stand it!)

So there you have it. Doctor Who is MADE OF LOVE!!! And I wish you all a
filled with lots of love and joy as well. XOXOXO
So, in honor of this very shiny holiday, I bring you:
A LOVE LETTER TO ALL MY FAVORITE (not necessarily romantic) TWOSOMES (and moresomes) in DOCTOR WHO
*as expressed through picspam and fic recs

:)
Love your post...esp that second Seven and Ace pic. Too cute for words.
Happy V-Day to you as well.

on 2008-02-13 04:18 pm (UTC)Oh, HELL yes. I actually decided that he brought Ace to Gallifrey and that she trained at the academy and became a Time Lady. (And there is a kick ass story that I recced a little while back that dealt with that scenario). Works perfectly in my mind. \o/

on 2008-02-13 05:47 pm (UTC)Though I do have to wonder what she'd make of this latest incarnation. I think there would be some hitting involved.
Are you referring to In The Widening Gyre? If so, I love that story more than reason. The author says no sequel, as they would have to write about the Time War and that would melt their brain, right? Understandable. But I'd love to see a few vignettes here and there in that 'verse.
Pardon the chatiness- I'm home sick and bored.

on 2008-02-13 09:44 pm (UTC)YES! I totally loved that story SO much. One of my alltime fave 7th doctor works. I'm sad that the author isn't planning on writing any sequels, but vignettes would be AMAZING. I'd totally join you in begging for some scraps. ;-)
PS. I hope you feel better soon!

on 2008-02-13 11:10 pm (UTC)That's why I prefer Nine to Ten in re Rose. They didn't try to SHOEHORN IN THE MASSIVE LURVE in Nine's season.
Also, you missed Doctor/Romana, possibly the OTP of all OTPs in any fandom ever.

on 2008-02-14 03:49 am (UTC)I was WAITING for someone to say that. ;-) I left them out because I really, really, really, really don't like Four. I wanted to put Romana&Leela because their relationship in the Gallifrey audios is so brilliant, but I couldn't find any pics of them together. Very sad. But yeah, Romana kicks ass. Both of her.

on 2008-02-15 03:39 pm (UTC)Mmmmmmmmmmm...I like that. Or maybe the Master uses the Brig as bait to lure Three to him? Hypnotizes the Brig into bed gets the Doctor to go along with it somehow? I love the idea of it all being some kind of borderline non-con. The Master being the devious bastard that he is and all. ;-)
Mind if I friend you?
Of course not! Friend away.

on 2008-02-15 07:52 pm (UTC)Absolutely. It would give the Doctor the out he needs psychologically. He could do what he's always WANTED to do, while blaming the Master the whole time and convincing himself it was all non-consensual. And the Master would eat that shit up because he would know that the Doctor was absolutely bullshitting himself to the max. Not to mention the fact that the Master would know that the memory of it would torture the Doctor forever and it would give the Master even MORE control over him. Which is really the Master's whole reason for being, right? Oh, lord. Just the thought of this pleases me to an obscene degree.
no subject
on 2008-02-16 12:01 pm (UTC)I agree, especially as innocent bystanders were inextricably involved. I just have this image of the Doctor at the end apologising to the [asleep, perhaps] Brig, in his own way, a bit like 7 when seeing him [what he thought to be] dead in Battlefield.
Just the thought of this pleases me to an obscene degree.
I agree. Am definitely going to have a stab at writing this at some point. Not finished watching all of Pertwee's run though, so this gives me a good excuse to research! :P
