I have to say that Benny's really grown on me since I started listening to the audios - I can only ascribe that to Lisa Bowerman's characterisation, because I couldn't warm to book!Benny at all until I'd heard a few of the audios.
YES! Lisa is...I don't have words that can adequately express her level of awesomeness. It pleases me SO much that other people are realizing how bad ass the audios are. \o/
I was really wary about the audios, because she came across as being pretty unlikeable in the Seven/Ace/Benny novels I'd read. But yeah, Lisa does a good job of making her more likeable. I haven't listened to all of the Benny Audios yet, but I've got through about a dozen, I think, including all of season 8.
Without a doubt. I find the NAs very tough to get through. Poor writing, inconsistent characterization, BLECH. BF, on the other hand, is brilliant 9 times out of 10.
Oh dear. I've heard for years how dreadful the NAs were, and yet, they were a huge part of my 1990s "wilderness years" fandom. Yes, there were some terrible ones -- in fact, the very first one was bad, because John Peel had no interest in writing for the Seventh Doctor and Ace, and was writing other people, and yet, I saw what they were trying to do and it hooked me. When they were good, they were intense and drew me in, and seeing that I read some great fanfic back in the days of print fanzines, the occasional dismissal of the NAs as fanfic just makes me shrug.
I guess I should feel terribly guilty that I loved the NAs back in the day and liked book-Benny just fine. But I don't. hee hee
Lisa definitely brings Benny to audio life, though, and I agree that she's awesome, yay!

Of COURSE not! I love book Benny just because it's Benny. And I've really tried to find some good NAs. I keep trying, actually, because I love Benny with the Doctor SO MUCH. It's just...tough. But I kind of think you're lucky to enjoy them because that means so much more Benny for you.
