I just experienced the most insane weather event of my entire life. The whole way to the metro, there were wind gusts of up to 50 mph. That was freaky enough for DC, but the sun was out so I figured it was just an unusually windy day. I get to my stop and start walking to work, where I run into a friend of mine. All of a sudden, the sky turned black and tiny ice pellets started falling. They were blowing so hard that it was like being sandblasted. We couldn't move forward, people across the street were blown into a chainlink fence, it was UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE. There were a few seconds where I was blown so hard, and it was so painful, I thought I was going to be knocked to the ground.

I think that must be what being in a hurricane feels like.

My friend and I finally made it into the building and all these people were standing in the lobby with shocked looks. We were SOAKED. And then, while we were standing there, the sky turned blue again.

It's the end of the fucking world.

DON'T LET THE WEATHER KILL YOU ELYSSA. I WOULD BE SAD. LIKE THIS: ;_____;

i got to enjoy a three hour delay on my flight home last night on account of gale-force winds around new jersey.

also! once i was in belgium and there was a hurricane. and as it was whipping up i was walking with friends down the street nd we had to force ourselves against the wind because it was so MASSIVE, and i was like, "we just need to get up to the next street, we'll get out of the wind-tunnel this street is making and then we'll be able to walk properly!" and then we got to the next street and I WAS SO WRONG because the wind was so sudden and fierce i literally got blown away and would have flown off the sidewalk (and probably into a car) except i ran into two old women. THEY SAVEDED ME.

Ok, I just laughed so hard at that story I guffawed.

That is AWESOME. I'm still laughing. Ediburgh is the windiest place I've ever lived. I saw one of those newspaper kiosks actually blow about 30 feet across a bridge once. With the paper seller still inside. It was fantastic. Still, your story wins.
