No Doctors this year, sorry... there are only four that do conventions, and we've had all of them in the past 5 years (just had Colin and Sylv in the past two). Probably for 2010...

We will still likely be announcing one or two additional DW/Torchwood related guests, as well as some other locals. We're actually shying away from the local signing actors this year (barring a small handful) because we've done that, and they appear at every autograph convention; instead, we're focusing more on local creative talent like writers and illustrators. Unfortunately, we're also running out of room with all the programming we're doing, so there won't be that many more...

That makes me very, very, very, very sad. But there you go.

I was just kidding because I hate Tennant. His being there would make me not go. But you're right, I honestly can not imagine CE ever attending a con which is SO SAD! But he is just not that guy. I'm still holding out hope that Peter will attend either CT or GO next year. He and Sarah Sutton together at a con would be SO SO SO SO AWESOME. Oh, the bitchiness. ;-)

Right?! That dude (I'm pretty sure it was the same guy) spoke at the closing ceremonies of CT and the whole thing sounds amazing. But it's like a couple of thousand dollars, I think. If I had that kind of money to spend on travel there are a million other places I would go before a floating con.

word on the street (and by that, i mean the hotel lobby at chiTARDIS) is that eccleston actually *is* considering doing cons -- but is going the mcgann route (i.e. waiting until the money is right, and will probably only do them sporadically, unlike other doctors). SOMEDAY PERHAPS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TOUCH HIM.

i doubt that tennant will be doing cons by the time of next year's gallifrey (i don't even think all of the specials will have aired by then!), so you're probably safe from his sexy weaselness for the time being. meanwhile, i heard some things about 2010 which make me think i'll need to save up some funds and make my way to california.

frankly, if i was DT i would wait a few years before i went to a con, just because i would FEAR FOR MY LIFE. he gets mobbed and followed around enough as it is. maybe after a few years with a hotter another doctor things will have toned down a bit.

that said, i look soooooo forward to it, whenever it does happen, because he is such a fanboy, and i would love to hear him debate canon minutiae on a panel like i saw nick briggs, rob shearman, and paul cornell do at chiTARDIS. most of the actors are lovely, but they aren't necessarily fans -- which is arguably good, for their acting, but i like cons because i get to hang out with fans and talk about ridiculous fan stuff. woot!

Oh, absolutely. Aside from Colin, all my best experiences at CT were with the BF people. And s/he DID say there will be at least a few more guests announced, so there's still hope I'll get the chance to see some more old skool people I love. It's just disappointing to go all the way across country and not get to see a Doctor.

A girl on my f-list was invited to be a guest, but aside from the occasional fanart/comic that she draws (she hasn't even been watching the show for a year yet!), I'm still trying to figure out WHY she was invited. I've never been to Gally, so is there a more general fandom con feel to it so that the panel discussions are a little more widespread?

Gally's witnessed a lot of other "monofandom" cons go under by failing to diversify; DW/TW/SJA is a hot item in the UK, but internationally still needs help to support a full convention, I think. (tl;dr - I think the answer is yes, but having only been to *one* Gally I couldn't say for sure)

The theory a few of my friends and I have is that she is quite involved a lot with other conventions and makes a name for herself in the cosplay world. And, one friend commented something that she and one of the other "local" artists have the same publisher, so perhaps some strings were pulled?

Yeah, that's my understanding. (And that is pretty hilarious.) But Paul doesn't even do a lot of cons, which is sad. I'd loooove to see him, but from all accounts he is super shy/reserved. It's probably really difficult for him.

I think you're right about Tom having done cons in the past but I can't remember hearing about him at any events in quite some time. Not even UK events.

True, true. Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed for that. Kind of a bummer though. Since it's the 20th GO, you'd think it'd be... I dunno, a little celebration or something big. But, you know, not having a Doctor makes it MORE likely they might get Frazer or Debbie or Nick or something. As much as I'd love to meet Paul or Peter, etc., I'd be thrilled with a whole Troughton era thing. I wonder if they'd try to avoid that though. Like, Troughton fans will come for Wendy already, so they'd try to get another era companion to draw... fans of other Doctors. Sigh.
