I just read this:

Filming on series two will begin in the summer and Ashes to Ashes will return to BBC One in 2009.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

A year? A fucking YEAR?!?! Oh god, why.

I weep.

That's how it always is for the Brits. :/

Well, it's clear your networks hate you and want you to suffer. Why do the Brits have such a masochistic relationship with their televisions?

I dunno. *shrug* All things considered I think the British television system is retarded. They take twice as long to film something that's THREE times (or more) as short as a normal American television season. And their actors have way too much freedom. They can dictate if a show goes on based on whether they feel like doing it or not! That's bullshit. Give them the all a nice FIVE YEAR contract like in America. ;)

I think you might be right. I mean it certainly raises the quality in some instances, but it takes WAAAAY too long. I think a middle ground would be television perfection. Both countries should make seasons that are 12 episodes long in order to keep the quality up. I think 23-24 eps is just too much for a season and the quality tends to suffer for it. Too much of a rush job. 12 eps would be perfect. But don't leave us waiting a year in between every damn season. Air 12 eps then take a 4-5 month break. Then another 12 eps. That CAN'T be unrealistic.

I mean, clearly I know best. Why doesn't everyone LISTEN to me? ;-)

Very good! *applauds* I think HBO/Showtime television here is sort of the equivalent of the Brit stuff, but it's still better because it's always a guaranteed 13 eps. There they have some shows that are 6 eps! That's retarded.

Thank you, thank you. And yes! The HBO/Showtime model is an excellent one. High quality, shorter seasons, and I imagine they actually do have their actors on contract.

I don't watch the show, but could 2009 mean January. In the states they say stuff like that and it means a few months really. :)

Oh, I really really hope so. But I doubt it. The BBC loooooooooves to drag things out. It's such an abusive relationship with the viewing public. ;-)

Yup. :(

(It started at the beginning of February this year, so hopefully the same for next year? Fingers crossed, anyways.)

Oh, man. February would be ok. Seriously. I mean, it's gonna SUCK BALLS but it's still only...7 months and not the whole year I was fearing.
