Moving on to Supernatural...
Jun. 6th, 2007 07:35 pmWell, after reviewing my bookmarked stories, it would appear I've gone completely insane for SPN. I fought this fandom so hard and for so long because I just didn't want to get involved with another show. But when I finally broke (and we can all blame that on
janissa11 who is a vile, vile temptress)...I fell hard. And now I've got WAY too much stuff for a single post. So, here's the start of my saved Supernatural fic and there will definitely be a lot more where this came from.
I warn you now, almost everything I rec for this fandom is going to be Wincest (because if it isn't gay incest porn, what's the point?) I do have some stories to rec that aren't, but we'll save those for another day.
To begin, here are some Wincest stories of the mostly angsty variety
Carry Me Over the Sky by

This is one of the first SPN stories I ever read and it's still one of my absolute favorites, no matter how many times I re-read it (and I'll never admit how many times that is. NEVER!) It's a first-time set after Crossroad Blues and it has everything I could ever ask for from Wincest. Angst, spot-on characterizations, uncomfortable emotional confrontations, and a progression into sex that works in every possible way. And the sex? Holy fuck. Honestly, I adore this story beyond the telling. Here's an example of why:
They had to stop. But he felt like the pieces of him were laid out all over the grass they'd just walked across, just spilled out and lying there in the moonlight, and only Sam could find them all and keep them all safe, only Sam had the answer for this terrifying, wordless vertigo rolling through him. Just this once, he caught himself thinking. Who would know? Who would it hurt, if he just let this happen, let this insane, awful, fucked up thing happen between him and Sam, just this once?
Read this NOW.

Another absolute classic. An incredibly beautiful and poetic look at different moments in Sam and Dean's lives that could have led them to end up together (in a wincesty way, of course). Just gorgeous and I think it's the best thing this author has written, which is saying a hell of a lot because she is both incredibly talented and quite prolofic. I can't imagine there are very many people who haven't read her SPN work, but if you haven't, this story is a perfect place to start.
And The First Two Don't Count by

I am gonna run out of ways to say how great these stories are, but truely, they are. Here, Sam is trying to work out his feelings about Dean and come to terms with his circumstances and choices. The way that Sam finally works out that he wants to be with Dean is slightly matter-of-fact and so perfectly him, and Dean is utterly, magnificently Dean in response. I am such a sucker for perfectly in-character first-time Wincest and this is a delivers in every way.

The author provided a summary for this story of: The many ways the boys say "I love you" to one another. I think that's a perfect description. It's really a series of random snapshots of Dean and Sam's rather random life. It also contains a section of Dean's observations about Sam, and one of Sam's observations about Dean, that are some of the most amazing things I've read in this fandom. Those alone would be enough for me to consider this one of the best.
Now we come to
janissa11 who, if you didn't know, is probably my favorite author in all of fandom. I worship her brain. If you haven't read her stuff, GO NOW. As far as SPN goes, I'd say her best stories are:
Under a Haystack
Which I think most readers would agree is a classic. I'm not even sure what I can say about this that won't ruin it, so just read it. Don't argue.
And because I love it dark (which Em well knows and is never afraid to deliver) I suggest
On the Snap.

This is a two-parter that takes it sweet time getting to where it's going, but the ride is the whole point really. Beautifully written and utterly engaging. The basic plot is summed up as: The bad news is that Sam's ability is changing. The worse news is that he's having visions of him and Dean. Doing that. But it's really SO much more.
The Forces Ranged Within Us and Against Us by

This is another story that is really a series of snapshots. Beautifully poetic and filled with so much quiet emotion. Just gorgeous.
And finally (for tonight) I bring you the most beautiful What Is and What Should Never Be coda I could possibly imagine:
Worth It To See Most Of Me by

Broke my heart nearly as much as the episode did, but here, the author puts it back together again for me.
Oh, and did I mention it has both Dean and Sam getting high? It honestly doesn't get better than that. ;-)
And that's all for tonight, kids. More SPN soon...
