I'm actually pretty excited about this! It's giving me an excuse to go back and re-read some of the best stories in the fandom and an opportunity to gush about how great they are. What could be better?

So, here are some of the best Heroes stories I've read. Let's start with the Petrellicest

a hunger that's insatiable by [livejournal.com profile] technosage (Mohinder/Peter, Nathan/Peter, hints of Mohinder/Nathan/Peter)

I could not possibly recommend this story more highly. It's definitely AU given where the show went, but it's hot and hilarious and perfectly true to character. It's the first story I ever read by [livejournal.com profile] technosage and she hasn't done me wrong since.

the story of nothing by [livejournal.com profile] just_katarin (Nathan/Peter, with hints of Claude/Peter and Mohinder/Peter)

This might be my favorite Claude story. The author captures his voice perfectly and manages to paint a hot and vivid picture of Nathan/Peter through Claude's eyes. Excellent work.

[livejournal.com profile] just_katarin also wrote Some Things Never Change which is an exploration of Nathan/Peter and how the relationship may have begun, and where it could have gone. Really beautiful stuff.

Thicker Than Blood by
[livejournal.com profile] txtequilanights (Nathan/Peter/Claire)

Oh, how can I even begin to explain the hotness of this story? How about I just quote some:

Watching Claire kiss Peter burned, a physical pain beneath Nathan’s skin. Peter had fucked girls, had girlfriends, Nathan knew all that. But none of them had ever been able to come close to touching the ties that connected him to Nathan. Claire could, though. Easily. And Nathan couldn’t let that happen.

The author manages to take all the twisted emotionally damaging fucked up shit that the Petrellis do to each other and turn it into some of the hottest porn ever. Run, do not walk to read this one.

A Cord of Three Strands by [livejournal.com profile] eponis (Claire/Peter, Nathan/Peter, with some allusions to Claire/Nathan)

This is another brilliant look at the Petrelli family relationships through a very dark and twisted mirror. So much damaging love and need all mixed up with control issues and hot sex. Ah, Petrellis. I wish I could quote some great lines, but I'd be quoting pretty much the whole damn story.

Reciprocity by [livejournal.com profile] sparowette (Nathan/Peter)

While the author describes this one as crack-fic, I don't really agree. Sure, Nathan and Peter getting married is definitely a cracktastic plot, but Megan manages to make it completely believable and amazing. It's less about them getting married and more about the lengths that Nathan and Peter would go to for each other and how much they are willing to sacrifice.

Waste the Sky by [livejournal.com profile] mandysbitch (Nathan/Peter)

My god, how I love this story. It's an AU future-fic where Nathan and Peter have been forced to flee and go into hiding. The future that she creates for them here is so vivid and so engaging that I was actually a little angry when it ended because I didn't want to leave the 'verse. The language, the characterizations...I can't recommend this highly enough.

We're Made Out of Blood and Rust by [livejournal.com profile] hackthis (Nathan/Peter)

This author has done some amazing stuff in this fandom (including a series of AU vignettes she just posted that kick massive amounts of ass) but I do believe this story is my favorite. I will always have a soft spot for characters I love getting high, and the stoned!Peter in this piece is made of win. Not to mention, this line:

Sometimes Nathan forgets how quick Peter is when there's something he wants. Sometimes Nathan forgets that he's trained Peter to be this way.

knocks my socks off.

Relics of Childhood by [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore (Nathan/Peter)

This story takes place during the time after Simone's death when Peter went into hiding, and deals mainly with how much a part of each other the Petrelli brothers really are. It also contains one of the best descriptions of the workings of Nathan's mind I've ever read:

The inside of Nathan's head is Byzantine in its twists and turns, plans for double-crossing Linderman and a running list of ambitions and a mental note about Heidi's birthday, and in the background of it all, an image of the two of them, heated and unbrotherly.

Your Young Men Shall See Visions by [livejournal.com profile] linaerys (Nathan/Peter)

This author is another one who has done some amazing work in this fandom. I had a little trouble picking my favorite of her stories, but decided on this one because it was the first really epic piece I'd read for Heroes. This story is set before the start of the show, when Peter first goes away to college. Like I said in the comments when I originally read this, the backstory Lin creates here differs from the one I had originally envisioned for them. But her writing style and the intricate details she brings to this story hooked my completely. A really impressive work.

And now, because I think you can never go wrong with a little good porn, here are a few short pieces done for the Second Heroes Porn-a-thon that I think are must-reads. Utterly scorching.

Betwixt and Between by [livejournal.com profile] tahariel (Nathan/Peter/Claire)

and two by [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster

Governance (Nathan/Claire)
and
Lay It Down (Nathan/Peter/Claire)

Both of PT's stories are now AU with respect to the familial relationship between Nathan and Claire, but honestly? It doesn't matter. They are still some of the hottest smut I've ever read.

Finally, some non-Petrellicest fiction

Five Facts Ando Learned as Part of His Epic Quest to Help Save the World by [livejournal.com profile] sparky77

I absolutely adore this story. I'll admit that I am not as in love with Hiro and Ando as the show would like me to be (or that the media seems to think everyone should be) but this story made Ando real to me in ways the show never could. Just. So. Beautiful. It's heartbreaking and insightful and I wish everyone could read it immediately.

This author was able to do something similar for me with Hiro in this piece:

On Hiro Getting Shot... by [livejournal.com profile] sparky77

She captures the essence of what makes the relationship between Hiro and Nathan so utterly engaging. Another must read.

And last, but certainly not least, two fantastic stories by [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess

Twenty Things Learned On Road Trips which is exactly what the title says it is. The author manages to bring even the most minor characters to life in so few words. Fabulously done.

and

All The Popular Girls In High School which is the best possible Candice backstory I could ever hope for in the entire universe, but the show would never, ever be brave enough to give us.

And there we have it. I'll bring you more Heroes recs as I continue to read brilliant stories. Next up? Supernatural.

I discovered yesterday that [livejournal.com profile] sparowette yanked Reciprocity from the web. Worse, she deleted her own copy.

I've posted queries on two comms in the hope that someone out there kept a copy on their hard drive in some format (txt, pdf, whatever I can get ;-) and as you seem to have loved it as much as I, I thought it might be worth my asking you directly if you might have a copy.

If you do, I'm boji@livejournal and I'd be more than grateful.

eta: FOUND A wonderfully kind person sent it my way. Feeling much love for the interwebs right about now.
