Halloween Help?

Ok. So I realize that Hurricane Who takes place over Halloween. Which means that even though I don't usually cosplay at cons, I have to dress up this year.

So, I'm going as a member of the Happiness Patrol.

I've got the wig and the shoes covered. But I am having HELLLLLLA problems finding a cheap trench coat that would work. Does anyone have any suggestions where I could search that I haven't already?

For reference purposes:

Ah, this probably isn't going to help but [livejournal.com profile] penwiper337 went as a Happiness Patrol person for DragonCon this year though I think she sewed her outfit from scratch.

Maybe you could modify a bathrobe? this one's still expensive but you get the idea...

Sweeet!!! Her costume looks great. Do you actually know her? Could you ask if she used an actual pattern for the dress?

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] penwiper337 gives some tips for the coat in the comments here. She didn't use a specific pattern but suggests a kimono pattern and a crazy collar stolen from an 80's jacket.

YAY! Thanks, babe! That's perfect.

Oh balls, you're making me want to come up with something for Halloween. I've been dying to cosplay as a gasmask victim (like a WWII nurse or something), but finding the right gas mask is hard.

Duuuuuuude. You GOTTA! It's HALLOWEEN at a CON! It's like an absolutely necessity. And a gasmask nurse would pretty much be the most awesome costume of all time. Hot and annoying to wear probably, but AWESOME!

You really only have to wear the mask for a little while, then take it off and party down. PARTY ON DOWNTOWN.

But otherwise, I can't think of anything easy to dress up as! All the costumes I'd kill to wear are too elaborate!

I did briefly think of dressing up as Brannigan from "Gridlock".

I find your costume idea adorable. The only gasmask I've ever seen that seemed right was from a fetish shop. Hold on, let me find the link...

DAMN! It was discontinued. :-(

BALLS. There's an antique military store just down the street from where I lived. I posed as someone looking for a prop for a Broadway show, and they had a never-been-used mask still in its container. For 150 bucks. That's a tad out of my price range.

Good GRIEF. That's ridiculous. But check fetish sites. I think that might be a decent place to start, if you're serious. Or even if you're not. I can't actually imagine a downside to looking at sex toys. ;-)

This one is not so bad. A little pricey for me, and the mouthpiece isn't right.

That is shockingly awesome, but I get that it's pretty expensive. Maybe you can justify it by it being the only part of the costume you have to buy? I can't imagine you'll do much better on ebay or anything. Not for a real one.

Have you tried thrift stores for a trench coat you can have cut and hemmed to shorten?

I'm gonna sew it! I'm actually really psyched. I love sewing but I haaaaaaate sewing sleeves. Lucky for me, this is really just a kimono pattern with an early 80's collar and I've been assured the sleeves are super easy to do. YAAAAAY!
