I just saw 12_12_12 do this and it looked too fun to resist. Especially on a long, boring, Wednesday afternoon.



"One true foursome" ship:

Ridiculous admission time. I've only seen a handfull of Stargate:Atlantis episodes, yet I am completely addicted to the fic and have been for years. So, my OT4 is totally John/Rodney/Teyla/Ronon. There can never be enough fic for the four of them.

"Canon" ship:

Kirk/Spock. Wait...is that not canon? Well, then Leia/Han.

"Not quite canon but should be" ship:

Alex/Gene, Ashes to Ashes. I can not deal with how hot the UST is between them. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.....

"If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" ship:

Tenth Doctor/Rose. You know what? I'm gonna expand that to Doctor/Companion. I am the farthest thing from an asexualist whofan, but I absolutely do NOT want the Doctor in a canonical relationship with a companion. Other humans, aliens, time lords, fine. But not a companion. Leave that for the fanfic.

"You are one sick bastard" ship:

Doctor/Jenny. I can't help it. I usually draw the line at parent child incest fic (the power dynamic squicks me) but with them...I like it. What can I say.

"I dabble a little" ship:

Matt/Mohinder, Heroes. I think they are just adorable and I loved all the M3 stuff with them raising Molly together. Sappy but true. ;-)

"It's like a car crash" ship:

I can't really think of one, so I am going to go with Kara/ANYONE. I love Starbuck more than I can even begin to say, even though I gave up on BSG because I couldn't deal with the relentless misery. Anyway, that woman is a train wreck in ANY relationship. And I love her even more for it.

"Tickles my fancy but not quite sold yet" ship:

Well, back to SGA because I wasn't kidding when I say I read a SHITLOAD of fic for that show. I was definitely getting into Weir/Ronon before she left the show. I wasn't entirely sold, but there was definitely some rather convincing fic.

"Makes no canon sense but why they hell not" ship:

Martha/Harry Sullivan. Sure, they've never met but I don't care. They would be AWESOME together and I know I'm not alone in thinking that because there is already kick ass fic written about them. \o/

"Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" ship:

God help me, Tenth Doctor/Rose.

"When all is said and done" ship:

Nathan/Peter, Heroes. Dean/Sam, Supernatural. But it's kinda creepy that I think brothers are the only ones who would die for each other. So, I'm gonna add...Xena/Gabrielle to even it out a bit.

"Guilty pleasure" ship:

McClane/Farrell, Live Free or Die Hard. Why is it a guilty pleasure? Because I loooooooooooooathed that movie with the heat of a thousand suns, yet I can't get enough slash for it. ::sigh:: I'm weak.

"I can't believe I read it and liked it" ship:

Jensen/Jared, RPF. I used to hate the idea of RPF and said I'd never read it. Again, I'm weak.

Favourite older/younger ship:

Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon. SOOOOOOOOOO hot.

My first, "I could never abandon you" ship:

You are gonna laugh at me, but it's DeeDee McCall/Rick Hunter. Hunter was my most favorite show in the entire world when I was little. I was OBSESSED with it. After Princess Leia, DeeDee was the love of my young life. I will always love the idea of them together. It makes me all warm and fuzzy. I still have a bunch of episodes of the show on VHS and every once in a while I'll watch them and fall in love all over again. Don't mock me. ;-)

Favourite devotion ship:

Kirk/Spock or Xena/Gabrielle. I guess it's the whole "love means coming back from the dead" thing that does it for me.

Favourite never-met ship:

Any multi-era Doctor Who ship. Like Martha/Harry or Donna/Sixth Doctor. I think those 2 are my top choices.

Favourite "Awwww!" ship:

Doctor/TARDIS. OTP4EVA!!!!!

Favourite perverted ship:

Perverted? Me?

Favourite dominance!battle ship:

Doctor/Master. Specifically, Third Doctor/Delgado!Master. Always and forever.

Even though I'm not in practice that interested in Doctor/River itself, it opened me up to I think I'd be able to take a Doctor/companion canon couple. It'd have to be a really careful job, though, depicting it as the specific relationship and not a symbolic thing that invalidates his affection for everyone else he's ever known or will know. Basically, like the dynamics we see him have with companions anyway (whichever ones we think are shippy), but actually noted as a couple, like showing them kiss or something (real ones, not plot device pseudo/non-kisses). I'm not saying I want them to do this, and it's still no assurance that I'll personally be won over by the workings of the relationship, but I'm starting to feel like the possibility mightn't be invariably disastrous.

I think I agree IF (and this is a big if) s/he becomes a companion after they already have some kind of romantic connection. I think if the person was already a companion, a subsequent sexual relationship would have the kind of power imbalance that squicks me. And then, like you mentioned, it would also lead to the kind of companion wars crap we already have way too much of in this fandom. Obviously this isn't 100%, but I don't think I would be a fan of it.

A rather bizarre darkfic that was Eric/Jackie/Hyde with, like, other stuff like rape and murder going on. Anyway, the thing is I don't quite get Eric/Jackie on account of their (awesome) interaction being so limited in canon. Also, more recently (like, uh, two days ago?), Seven/Peri.

Favorite older/younger ship:

House/Cameron. I have ceased to watch them with expectation, but the stuff I get from them always amazes me, effortless internal angst/playfulness of the very used to each other who still find one another intriguing.

My first, "I could never abandon you" ship:

Peter/Wendy! Still OTP-est of OTPs, since I was but a toddler.

Favorite devotion ship (going by your definition):

It'd probably be Doctor/Nyssa, for they are so touching in their partnership and concern and mutual caretaking despite angsty flare-ups and different priorities, but I'd go amiss not to mention BJ/Hawkeye, because I've never seen a pair as undisturbingly "two halves" and SO UTTERLY MARRIED as they.

Favorite "never met" ship:

I'm really, really liking Martha/Mickey right now. I wonder what will become of that interaction come the next episode.

Holden/Jane.

I'd prefer to spork Rusty's guts, but I'm sure I'll have the urge - and I agree, I really, really just don't get it. Part of it is how they kept having to practically SCREAM at us that they were so happy and having SO MUCH FUN TOGETHER SQUEE!!!!! Because there was very, very little genuine chemistry there. It was okay, but not great.

BUT, I read a short Jenny crack!fic recently that had a Nine/Jenny moment that was astonishingly hot and poignant.

YES YES YES! The age difference also adds to the squick. I can't BELIEVE that Peter Davison hasn't beat the crap out of Tennant already for fanboying all over his little girl.

I've never seen Numb3rs, though. For all my fannish obsessiveness, I really haven't watched many shows in the last...5 years.

Age gaps don't really bother me - it would be hypocritical, as I've always been attracted to older men myself; but power imbalance does, and DT's fanboyishness would be a huge red flag on that one.

Numb3rs was one of those shows that was great in its first season and then became... ordinary. It's been very sad. I'm barely watching anymore. Rob Morrow has always been an ass, and David Krumholtz is very talented, but has become frustratingly lazy.

The three shows that I've really become fannish about have all followed a similar pattern — they started out brilliantly, and then they either recast or reshuffled the show and it became a shadow of its former self. And yet they've all become more popular after that, while I'm going, BUT IT WAS BETTER BEFORE!

I've dabbled in Heroes, but mostly because Claude brought such a wonderful tone of snark that was sadly needed in the show. I also love that there are Americans who think Christopher Eccleston is a funny dude. Not that he's not, it's just such irony! (I'm going to finish my Claude/Bennet fic if it kills me.) (Note to self: if you edit the sentence, make sure you erase the repetitions!)

re: DT & GM, given that she already has a kid and that he has the personality of an adolescent, I'm betting she's the mature one in that relationship, and it still kind of squicks me!

I had all these friends trying to get me into Heroes, and when CE was announced, it was kind of like the fates were conspiring against me. I was ready to be won over by Nathan and Peter, but Peter just irritated me, alas. One of the reasons I loved him with Claude was that Claude beat the hell out of him and CE made MV a better actor, noticeably. (Even MV admits it.)

I've got about half of the last chapter of my Bennet/Claude fic done. If you're interested, parts 1-5 are here. It's definitely fucked up dynamics, with some family bits thrown in! I suppose it calls into question what a family really is.

My first reaction was pretty visceral on that one. I think Tennant seems like a nice guy - mostly. I just think he's a lazy, self-indulgent actor. But breaking up with Sophia Myles over the phone and sleeping around the cast and crew of DW just seems a bit high-handed. I understand it's a busy job and people meet all the time, but still, power gap issues loom again...
